Qualcomm is continuing the trend of launching a similar version of the old chips. Recently, the Snapdragon 860 made its debut in the Poco X3 Pro. If you are wondering which one is the Best Snapdragon 860 vs 865 vs 870? We got your back. Snapdragon 860 is just a very slightly tweaked version of the Snapdragon 855, a 2-years old flagship chip. We have seen this in the past as well when the company launched the Snapdragon 870 which was nothing buts just an improved version of the Snapdragon 865.
But now the question is how much these chips differ from each other. Well, this article will get you covers with that. In this article, I’ll be comparing the Qualcomm Snapdragon 860, 865, and 870 edge to edge.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 860 VS Snapdragon 865 VS Snapdragon 870 Comparison
Fabrication Process & Efficiency
None of the chips is having anything different in terms of the fabrication process. All the three SoCs are using TSMC’s 7nm N7P IP design which is the company’s 2nd gen 7nm fabrication. For comparison, the current Snapdragon 888, the best chip from Qualcomm right now, is on the 5nm fabrication.
Hence we can say that the fabrication of these chips is pretty decent and offers one of the best efficiency in the business.
The CPU configuration of the Snapdragon 860 shares a lot of similarities with the Snapdragon 855 and 855 Plus. It has the Kryo 485 CPU that consists of a 1+3+4 tri-cluster CPU. There are Cortex-A77 based prime and gold cores at 2.94GHz and 2.42Ghz respectively. The rest of the 4 Silver cores are Cortex-A55 based at 1.8GHz. You can clearly see that the CPU is just exactly the same as the Snapdragon 855 Plus.
Talking about the snapdragon 865 and 870, there is again so drastic change. Both have the same Kryo 585 CPU in 1+3+4 cores distribution. The difference is in the clock speed of the Prime core. The snapdragon 870 has the Prime core working at 3.2GHz whereas the SD 865 has the same at 2.84GHz.
In context to that, the Snapdragon 865 Plus has this prime core at 3.1GHz. The rest of the gold and silver cores are at 2.42GHz and 1.8GHz respectively.
GPU & Gaming Performance
The gaming performance of the chips is definitely pretty good. The Snapdragon 860 has the Adreno 640, the same that is available in the SD 855 and 855 Plus. Qualcomm has not commented much on the GPU front of the Snapdragon 860 but we can safely expect the chip to have an overclocked Adreno 640, at least as is available on the Snapdragon 855 Plus.
Coming to the Snapdragon 865 and 870, then both these chips have the same Adreno 650 GPU. The difference is the same though. The Snapdragon 870 has an overclocked Adreno 650 and hence is better than the SD 865.
The newly launched Poco X3 Pro has the Snapdragon 860 and has scored 491412 points over AnTuTu V8. In context to that, the Snapdragon 860 has been seen with an average AnTuTu score of around 625000 points. And talking about the Snapdragon 870, the chip has been spotted to score 679860 points on the Moto Edge S smartphone.
The RAM support is different here. The snapdragon 865 and 870 are supported to have LPDDR5 RAM whereas the Snapdragon 860 is limited to the LPDDR4x RAM. The on-board storage type of UFS 3.1 is still common in all three chips.
The camera support of up to 200MP is available on the SD 865 and SD 870 where as up to 192MP is on the Snapdragon 860. The video encoding of up to 4k at 30fps is available on the SD 860. However, the Snapdragon 865 have been seen on smartphones like Samsung galaxy S20 and Note 20 that are even able to shoot in 8k at 30fps.
The AI capability is also better in the Snapdragon 865 and 870. Both have the Hexagon 698 DSP with Qualcomm 5th Gen AI Engine. This makes the SD 870 chip to reach up to 15TOPS of AI speed. On the other hand the SD 860 has the Hexagon 690 DSP.
Not All the three chips are kind of 5G enabled but none of them have the integrated 5G modem solution. The SD 865 and 870 are supported to have Qualcomm X55 5G modem which is the company’s 2nd gen 5G modem. The X55 modem can provide up to 7.5Gbps and 3Gbps download and upload speeds respectively. For comparison, there are Qualcomm X55 and x60 modems that the company has launched after the X55 modem. So, this modem is kind of an old one now.
Talking about the Snapdragon 860, it has a Qualcomm X24 LTE modem that provides 4G speeds of up to 2Gbps and 316Mbps in downlink and uplink speeds respectively. Its 5G sections come with support for Qualcomm X50 5G modem which is Qualcomm’s very first 5G modem chip and is not good to be used nowadays.
In the search of Best Snapdragon 860 vs 865 vs 870, we found Snapdragon 870 best for many reasons In which first is the affordability we saw too many devices in the global market with too less price than current Snapdragon 865/865+ devices available, Even Motorola has launched it Smartphone with Snapdragon 870 around 2000 Yuan’s costing INR 22000 in India which is less than the competition.
If we look at Snapdragon 860 this the best cheapest chipset available yet but it does not offer 5G connectivity but complaining about abbot 5G at this price point does not make any sense.
